{Pets Rock!}

Man, did we have a fun week learning about pets and animal needs! We read so many fun books and made our own Animal Need Flip Book. We also learned about the features of nonfiction texts and made our own class book on pets. We incorporated persuasive writing this week by writing letters to our parents to convince them to buy us a pet. We modeled our writing after the book I Wanna Iguana.

Our favorite part of the week was our Pet Rock Project!
The students completed Planning Pages that looked like this:

They made their pet rocks at home:

And then, they wrote persuasive pieces to convince me that their pet rock should win "Best in Show!":

Of course, they were so great I couldn't pick just one winner! All Pet Rocks received a special award!

{The Firsties Celebrate 100}

Can you believe we've already made it to the 100th Day of School?!?!

We had so much fun celebrating all things 100!
We explored measurement with 100 pennies, 100 centimeters of string, and 100 drops of water!
We collected data on activities we could do in 100 seconds!
Represented the number 100 in as many ways as we could!
Drew and wrote about ourselves as 100 year olds!
Put together puzzles with 100 pieces!
Enjoyed a snack of 100 Fruit Loops!
Read many books about the 100th Day of School!
(Are you tired yet?)
It was exhausting, but sooo fun!!!

Me and my 100 year old Grannies!

{Freezing in First}

The Firsties spent the last two weeks learning all about Arctic and Antarctic animals. We had a blast reading for lots of information (and I mean LOTS!) and watching video clips to catch a glimpse of the animals in action! We all this information together to make a book about penguins and polar bears!

 The Firsties also did some animal research on their own at home and presented some great Animal Projects!

Ryann: Beluga Whales

Arik: Reindeer

Ansley: Arctic Fox

Harry: Harp Seal

Grady: Polar Bear

Marcus: Narwhal

We did a really cool experiment to learn how blubber keeps cold weather animals stay warm:

On Friday we had "Tacky the Penguin Day". We dressed in our tackiest clothes and made penguin cookies!

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to rotate it!!
